LotR: Implied homosexuality for ratings « Thread Started on Apr 5, 2006, 7:51am »
Am I the only person outraged that TBS is twisting the honorable, innocent and sincere friendship which I am certain Mr. J.R.R. Tolkien intended between his characters, Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee, into something perverted? In fact, they have debased heartfelt fellowship and genuine friendship into something carnal which had no place in his writings anywhere I have ever read! It is my opinion that out of all the changes and stretches to his stories and plotlines ever implied or conceived, this would be the one to which the author himself would take the greatest offence. As a “fairy” -tale story and now nearly a legend, Middle Earth and the Lord of the Rings has always been somewhere “safe” I could direct my own children (much like the late, great Mr. J.R.R. Tolkien himself) without it requiring adult supervision. Now, thanks to Turner Broadcasting and TBS, one of the few remaining bastions of charm and innocence has been violated, even if in jest! If you are not familiar with the promo spot to which I am referring, it can be found at: < http://tbs.com/stories/story/0,,70708,00.html > and < http://tbs.com/broadband/videoplayer/0,,70636,00.html > The TBS promo states: “Lord of the Rings – Secret Lovers”, “Are Sam and Frodo a little more than friends? Not that there’s anything wrong with that.” …what’s next? Will TBS violate C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” by implying bestiality just for shock value? If you too are equally outraged by this, then I encourage you to voice your opinion on the TBS forum at: < http://forums.tbs.com/jive/tbs/forum.jspa?forumID=69 > Use Search Forum keywords: “Lord of the Rings” And please, please fell free to pass this along! I pray, let us give voice to the voiceless masses. ~ T
